Facebook announced a name change recently. They will be changing their name from Facebook to Meta short for Metaverse. As Facebook prepares to go all-in on the metaverse. A virtual-reality space where users can interact with one another in a computer-generated environment. The company has announced a new name: Facebook Metaverse. Meta.
Metaverse will change from the 1st of December 2021
Zuckerberg emphasized that the company’s corporate structure. As well as how it uses and shares data, will remain unchanged. However, beginning in the fourth quarter, Meta will separate its Reality Labs segment from its app family.
Along with the new name, the company has a new Twitter account and website. It will also change its ticker symbol from FB to MVRS on December 1. Following the announcement, Facebook’s stock increased by up to 3%.
You can create your own house and crib and connect
According to Zuckerberg’s letter, the metaverse will allow people to interact with their friends and family, work, learn, play, shop, and create.
To lay the groundwork for the metaverse, a new feature called Horizon Home is included. Which will allow users to create their own digital living spaces. Where they can hang out with friends, watch videos, and participate in games and apps. Horizon Home expands on Horizon Worlds. Which is currently in beta, and Horizon Workrooms, which is designed for businesses. In the meantime, Horizon Venues will provide users with all-access passes to live concerts, sporting events, and other events.
San Andreas and Oculus quest to be included
Meta is also expanding on the Oculus Quest 2 with an Active Pack for fitness. Which includes an exercise-optimized facial interface. And touch controllers to help users stay in control while sweating. Furthermore, Quest for Business which allows users to collaborate with coworkers. And access productivity apps through a Work Account. However, quest for Business will go into limited beta in 2021 and will be fully released in 2023.
In addition, with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The company will expand its Messenger VR capabilities with audio calling and VR gaming offerings. In addition, developers can gain access to a new Presence platform. Which includes tools for creating more realistic mixed reality, interaction, and voice experiences.
